I am going to start Lexapro (my first anti-depressant ever) this week. How has going on medication changed your depression? Would love to hear the experiences of others as I start this journey? šŸ’•

lexapro didn’t help me at all because the dosage wasn’t enough for me particularly, but it was my first step! i didn’t experience any negative side effects either. i’m on zoloft 75mg now and it has helped so much. i hope this works for you!!

Lexapro didn’t work for me really, effexor didn’t work.. I’m on pristiq/wellbutrin/trazodone now but I still don’t feel much of a difference.

I started taking Lexapro in February this year. In the first two weeks I felt a bit weird- I was tired physically and mentally and had a lot of headaches. But after a month or two I felt better mentally. Now im feeling less depressed, less overwhelmed from everything. Hope it will work for you, stay positive and Good luck!!

Prozac, effexor, wellbutrin, and trazodone didn’t help me. The only thing that helped was lexapro, and my doctor took me off of it because she thought that was the cause of my weight gain. Turns out I have PCOS, so i’m thinking about telling her to put me back on it.

I took Prozac for about 8 months and it was okay. I was out on 20Mg which ended up being too much and put me in a hypomanic state. My Prozac dose was lowered to 10 mg and I was prescribed abilify as well. The Abilify made me feel really out of it and like I was just there. So I didn’t take that for very long. I also weened off the Prozac but it wasn’t doing a ton and I just felt very eh all of the time. Never really happy and never sad. I don’t know I didn’t like the way it felt. It turns out my anxiety and depression are mostly hormonal as well, so that’s probably why these didn’t totally work for me.

I cant really remember how lexapro made me feel as it was the first med I’ve tried and I’m on my fourth now, but going on antidepressants definitely has helped and I’m hoping with my new changes to my meds, I’ll be feeling even better. Make sure to check in with yourself to see how you’re feeling and if there’s any side effects, to keep track of them so you can talk to your doctor about it. They make depression/anxiety so much more manageable

I started Lexapro a few months ago. It took a while to kick in, but the side effects weren't bad - just some dizziness and drowsiness that decreased pretty quickly. It's helped me a lot. It doesn't take away my anxiety and depression, but it gives me just enough leeway in my brain to do things that help my mental health overall. I'm able to do the work I previously wasn't. So I'm very grateful and glad that I started it.

i started sertraline about 5 years ago and its significantly helped me. But last year it started making me feel numb and couldnt really express emotions but my psychiatrist put me on wellbutrin and all has been good! I hope you get better!!!

I was on Lexapro for the first year or 2 it is amazing but it does take time about a month to fully kick in. Do you have anyone that you're close with that will be able to tell if/when the suttle changes thru the first month or so. Those closest to you will see the change way before you will notice. Best of luck sending only happy thoughts to you

There will be side effects you'll have to get used to. For me, it was increased sensitivity to light and sound, and a decreased sex drive. If the side effects are too severe for you, talk to your doctor about another option

I’ve tried many medicines for months and none of them ever worked until I started lexapro. Honestly it’s different for everyone but just don’t get discouraged if it gets hard to find a medicine that works because it can take awhile.
