Yes. I had a 6.5 removed May 3rd 2006. I am a kidney cancer advocate. Your mass is very small. A bit too small to get a accurate biopsy. RCC grows about 1/2 an inch a year. I don’t know your age, if you are in your 20’s 30’s call NIH, they will be interested in your case. There are several subtypes of RCC, Clear cell being the most prominent. There are some features that can make it more aggressive. RCC has stages 1-4 and A grade, the grade determines how aggressive it is. Make sure the urologist/surgeon has done many Laparoscopies. That they are at a university hospital. I would wait till it is 3 cm and biopsy. If it is benign you won’t lose kidney function and retain your kidney. About 20% chance it is benign. If it turns out to be RCC do a partial nephrectomy. It is better than freezing or burning it off for the future. If it turns out to be RCC make sure you see an RCC oncologist for a consult and to follow you for life. RCC is very sneaky and you need to scan yearly. I still scan 16 years later. Don’t wait because doctors don’t like to take on old cases. Drink 2-3 liters of water from now on. No NSAIDS only Tylenol from now on. Motrin Advil are filtered through the kidney, not good. Tylenol is filtered through the liver. Make sure you sleep at least 8 hrs a night to keep your immune system strong. Walk about 20 minutes a day for 30 minutes. I don’t like any in Virginia so I only refer Drs I know are tops. Never ever stop scanning as RCC is a sneaky cancer. I am out 16 years. I still scan, and will for life. Well I finally had it biopsied and it shows that I have Papillary renal cell carcinoma, grade 1.
