I wake up from my sleep not able to breath. It feels like I won’t catch my breath, but I do after a second. I think I may have allergies too. I have a dog and tested slightly allergic. I started getting this when I was under a lot of stress. My doctors want to do a sleep study. I haven’t done it yet. Anyone I don’t understand why I need to do that if my symptoms described would point to sleep apnea. Any thoughts and do people get similar symptom? Also I wouldn’t want to use CPEP. Anyone not use it and have anything natural that helps cure it?

@Jillybucks You have sleep apnea. Nasal prongs are used for the home test only. Overnite sleep test will confirm. I use a nasal cushion that covers only my nose and not mouth. I am a new person. Sleep area is not good long term for your heart and brain health. I would wake my self up and gasp for air. My OSAT was at 78% during my deep or REM sleep which is obstructive sleep area. Complete the test.

I have had that. I have allergy, asthma and low lung function but I also have sleep apnea

If you think you have sleep apnea, getting an official diagnosis through a sleep study is important if you want your health insurance to pay for treatments. Most sleep studies can be done at home. Also there are a few alternatives to CPAP that you could try. Leaving sleep apnea untreated is very dangerous to your health. Unfortunately there is no cure and treating this condition takes a lot of trial and error until you find something that works for you. Luckily I found a sleep specialist in my area who is helping me with this process. I wish you the best of luck in dealing with this, I know it won’t be easy but don’t give up because it is worth treating and you will feel so much better when you start having restful sleep.

@Imaginary813 I feel my sleep is generally restful until at times I wake up in fear from not breathing. I tried at home test, but the test did not work properly. Tried few times and it was uncomfortable too with breathing apparatus up nostrils. I gave up. They wanted me to do in hospital. My insurance barely pays or covers anything. Will keep trying.
