Diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome at a Young Age

Has anyone gotten diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome at a young age? I’m 22 years old and I also have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. My maternal grandmother also has it. I just feel alone.

I'm 21 and just got diagnosed in April of this year. My rheumatologist has also considered the possibility of me having mixed connective tissue disease too. I don't know anyone in my family with a confirmed diagnosis of either condition though.

Hey there! I’m 26 years old and got diagnosed with Sjogren’s last year. It’s a bit isolating looking up details about Sjogren’s and seeing that we’re well below the average age of onset/diagnosis! But excited to meet more younger people with the condition 😊

how are you treating your sjogrens? I use restasis eye drops, lozenges (I think the brand is act) and I’m doing iv hydration for other reasons, but it seems to help my sjogrens symptoms too

I was recently diagnosed and I’m 24 about to turn 25. All my other specialist are shocked that I got diagnosed so young. I’ve felt pretty alone in it too. If you ever need someone to talk to on your new journey I feel you. I’ve just started taking plaquenil for my symptoms and I’m treating all other symptoms like dry skin and eyes on my own for now. I need to make appointments with a dermatologist and ophthalmologist

I recommend researching sjogrens and seeing a rheumatologist. Restasis eye drops have been a game changer for me. For my dry mouth I suck on lozenges i think the brand I use is act

I’m 25 and got diagnosed pretty recently. I also have some sort of connective tissue disorder but genetics is still running tests and trying to figure out which one I have. Docs have a bad habit of assuming just because we are young and look healthy that we are. Being young with invisible illnesses is so very hard. But there are still a handful of good doctors out there who will listen to you, believe you and provide you appropriate medical care. The search for them is exhausting expensive and frustrating but worth it I’m the end.

I just got my diagnosis at 36, but we’ve been trying to figure it out for 7 years. All my symptoms ended being extraglandular Sjogren’s and I can remember having symptoms as early as 19

Hi Lyric, I was diagnosed at your age, I'm now 30 and finally have a good team of doctors after being dismissed for so long so I've just recently started treatment for sjogrens and i've been told it can take up to 12 weeks for Plaquenil to work (i take the generic aka hydroxycloroquin). But youre right its hard being young with multiple health condition so feel free to reach out if you need to talk! ❤️
