Sick Day Hell: Forced to Work While Struggling to Breathe

Sorry for the sob story post, I just have to tell someone about this. Whenever I'm off sick for college (High school) my parents treat me as if I'm having a day off. I have grade C oesophagitis and GORD so it happens fairly often. Recently I inhaled strong chemical fumes for approximately seven hours because I have a very limited sense of smell. I got 2 hours of sleep and woke up to my heart beating very fast for being at rest, and I was struggling to breathe. I tried to leave the house but when I was tying my boot laces I stood up and my vision went black and I had to sit back down. I sat there for about half an hour unable to breathe well and my heart beating way too fast. I knew had to stay off that day. My mother came home from dropping my brother off at his school and asked why I was home, I explained and she looked at me as if I was lying to get a day off. All day I was made to clean and cook for my mother. I had to clean the fireplace and take the ashes out to the bins, I then had to collect logs and kindling to light the fire, all whilst breathless and struggling to stay standing. I cooked dinner, fed the dog, did the dishes and made tea all day for my mother. I was vomiting stomach acid up that tasted like what the cleaning product smelled like. I now have to lie down in my cold 4°C (39.2°F) room because my family has turned the heating off due to the high cost of electricity. I will most likely have to go to college tomorrow as my parents get angry if I take too much time off sick. I don't know what to do when the time comes.

I'm very late to reply and I'm so sorry. Go to school. Talk to the teachers or counselor and tell them everything. They might be able to talk with your parents about it and explain to them in a way that will finally stick and give them a reason to pay more attention to you and believe you when you say you're sick.

I had the same shit going on for years. I didn't know I had GERD though until the beginning of this year, well after graduating high school, at 19. Wasn't on medications or anything and was sent home from school VERY often, even more so in elementary, because my mom and grandma didn't believe me once when I said I was sick and didn't think I could make it through the day.
