Sharing Depression with Friends

Do any of your friends know you have depression (for those who do)? I’m so private about it. My friends know about my past trauma, but no details. It’s something i know people don’t get unless they’ve gone through it. But sometimes i get so lonely i wish i had a friend to call or text during a depressive episode. I’m hoping therapy & my family (sometimes) will be enough. Thoughts?

1) Yes, a lot of my friends know I have depression whether I've told them directly or through their guesses. However there are a select few that I know that I can call or text at any time and they'll just listen or help me through it to the best of their ability. 2) You're right, it's hard to relate when you don't go through the same events in the same way. Even you and I would probably react differently to events in our lives. The only thing I try to keep in mind though is that if you cannot "help" someone, you can at least listen and be there for them. If you feel comfortable enough to just tell your friends "Hey, can I just depress for a moment?" and they're good with it, GO FOR IT! 3) Family and therapy does help, but in some ways it doesn't. Similar to the friends, a therapist or your family can't get inside your head and see exactly 100% of what's swimming around up there. They can try, but it's not foolproof. My advice for that is if you have a good family/therapist that is open and you trust, go to them for help as well. 💕💕💕💕
