Hey guys! I wanted to reach out and talk with the community cause I felt someone out there might get what I'm dealing with. Over the past couple months, I have developed a severe phobia of mold (referred to as Mycophobia, though that is specifically a fear of mushrooms). It started off normal, but as time has gone on, it's become really bad. To the point where I can't eat food I've bought unless it was bought within a couple days due to my fears. This, obviously, has lead to me eating less and being more restrictive, both things I don't want to be. So for anyone who has had similar experiences, what have you done and/or what has been recommended for you?

      Hello! I believe I may have ASD, but I haven’t been diagnosed unfortunately because of the cost. Also I’m severely allergic to mold, so I struggle with being overly scared/anxious of mold in my food. It’s a real struggle, and can really affect my life way more than the people around me think it does. I’ve also found myself throwing out food when it’s not moldy but I’m scared of it, specifically with fruit and veggies. I don’t want to be wasteful, but I also want to do what’s best for my brain and my body, so something I’ve found is when I’m thinking of throwing away food, I ask myself if keeping it in the moment would truly be harmful. If I’m not sure, then it makes me feel better to really inspect the food and see, or put it in a clear container to where I can better monitor it from the outside. (Because the non transparent containers can cause a lot of anxiety about opening them for fear of mold.) I hope this helps! :)
