i often swing between intense feelings of self hatred to inflated sense of self, is this common for people with major depressive disorders ? or is this something i should be more concerned about ?

If youve been diagnosed MDD go get evaluated for bipolar. There are two types and bipolar often goes missed because doctors never give a shit about mentioning mania when screening for depressive symptoms. Antidepressants can make bipolar worse. Document what youre going through. This isnt just a bipolar issue that can happen, can also happen with some personality disorders. Mania can feature inflated sense of self or over confidence and two disorders I know that feature it is bipolar and BPD. They work very differently in the brain but can look similar if you dont know how to spot why symptoms are occurring.
this can also be a BPD symptom

it depends on the frequency and how long the episodes last!! but definitely bring it up š
I agree with Unlucky, I would see your Psychiatrist and get tested for bipolar disorder.
Have you ever been tested for bipolar?
