What do I do when I desperately want reassurance that people like me and don’t secretly hate me when that will encourage me to do it more often and also probably make the person I want reassurance from angry or upset?? I feel so helpless and alone

Definitely would recommend counseling/therapy if you have never received it. This may require exploring why you need to be liked but is also a feature of some neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD. It is more than likely a side effect of how you have been treated in the past. It's also so much easier to be compassionate towards other people in order to get external validation than it is to be compassionate towards yourself most of the time. You are not alone! ❤️
