i am currently in therapy, and my care plan for therapy included ACT and DBT. upon reading DBT was a part of my treatment, i was extremely relieved because i have been convinced for almost a year now that i have BPD. i finally brought it up to my therapist a little bit ago and i'm still ruminating on what he said about it. he asked why i want a label for it, and i explained that i know i might push the blame from my actions onto BPD if i know i have it, but also that the clarity of knowing i have it would be part of my recovery and i would just like to know if i have it or not to help myself feel like i am not just an intrinsically "bad person." then he told me "well, call it whatever you want" and gave suggestions of customized names that are personal to me to call what i think is BPD. i still am just very confused on this answer. it was kind of the opposite of clarity, clarity being either a yes you have it or no you don't. i still don't know if i should keep interpreting his amswer as "you don't have BPD, but if a label makes it feel better, then customize a name for it" or if i should interpret his answer as "you have BPD, but instead of focusing on it being BPD, call it whatever you want so you can have a label but not push blame from yourself onto the label"

I got told by my psychiatrist that they don't officially diagnose personality disorders so it sounds like he's saying you have it but he's not going to put it in writing
