anyone else never want surgeries (even if you may have to), but only because your scared of the recovery process? the thought of recovering from an operation is very scary to me, even though i know eventually i will need to. also, if anyone has been through the recovery process, is this fear legitimate or does it seem out of place?

Yes 100%. This may be linked to OCD and a fear of the unknown. There's a chance I may have to get surgery soon and I am terrified.

I've had 3 surgeries, 2 that were major. I was very anxious going into it, but something that I used to help me was just becoming very knowledgeable about how everything works in the OR and how your surgery will be done. To me, it makes me feel like I'm more prepared for before, during, and after the procedure. Hope this helps!

I had to get knee surgery back in 2019 . I was so scared because my mom suffers from complications with anesthetic and I was also scared that my knee wouldn't get better well it did and didn't I still have chronic pain

@mystical.bear sorry to hear that. Chronic pain is no fun to live with, especially its effect on mental health

@Kapyin no, but it makes a good story now that I'm mentally able to talk and laugh about it

I’ve been through 2 surgeries now. There’s no right or wrong with fear, it’s valid that you’re concerned about it. The recovery process can be long and tough, unfortunately that is a given, but if the benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks generally that’s what I look at. If I hadn’t had surgery I can tell you with absolute certainty I would never have a quality of life, the surgery gave me a better quality of life. So imo it was very worth it, but you have to weigh that for yourself
