Relief after getting a diagnosis

I had a cardiology appointment today and they said I probably have POTS. Does anyone else feel a sense of relief/validation when they get a diagnosis? I was always under the impression that I was just being dramatic, I think because my sister is so much more disabled than me so I had the be self sufficient growing up.

I 100% feel relief with every new diagnosis. People find that weird because they assume I'm excited to have the health issue but what I'm relieved and excited about it knowing what the problem is so I can treat it and/or try to live in the best way I can with the issue.

Yes! 100%!!! Having a name for my experience has been life changing. It gives me the ability to advocate for myself in a more confident way. For example, I walk straight to the front of the line to pick up my kiddo. There’s only one small sliver of shade and I feel way way more confident walking past everyone because now I can name why I need that relief, rather than just saying, “Sun makes me hot and uncomfortable”.

I find that relieving as well! It’s so nice not to have to keep looking for an answer and worrying. My mom had breast cancer, and as much as I love her and am SO glad she is better, it definitely feels like my sickness isn’t very valid compared to that. So I do feel you there :(

I definitely get a sense of relief. For some reason people think it’s supposed to be horrible to receive a diagnosis, and maybe for some it is, but if you’ve been struggling for a long time with no answers, an actual diagnosis can be the most validating thing!
