Rediscovering Myself Through Outdoor Activities

I'd like to find more activities and motivations to get me outside and rediscovering personal likes and hobbies. It's a goal my psychiatrist has set for me.

Can you help? connect today

What state do you live in (if you live in a desert state vs a mountainous state vs a coastal state) because the advice will be different depending

Does the “NOLA” part of your name mean New Orleans Louisiana?

I am in the same boat. My hubby and I try to go camping once a month in the summer. Bask in the sun, a little fishing. Just sitting and enjoying nature does a world of good for us. I hope it helps you too.

I have a little dog who I walk, I garden, and I like to cook and bake. You could also try arts and crafty things if that suits your fancy.

I like to sit outside and toss some bird seed and watch the different types of birds! I also have a bunch of houseplants that I like to take care of. Idk if these are interesting to you or not, but I know it works for me :)

I don't know for certain, but my dog has the features and characteristics of a Pomeranian (extremely sassy 🙄😂). He is only about 16 lbs or so and while he's down to chill most of the time, he does need some activity each day. He also refuses to shit on his own yard so forces me to get up and walk him each day. I was in a bad way when I adopted so having something to make me get out of bed is what I needed. Obviously I have fallback plans for when I'm not able to do that but he truly has helped me so much. Plus he is just so affectionate and makes me feel better. Dogs > people

Oh ho, I couldn’t agree more. When ya don’t care so much about your own life, and ya got somethin layin around your house you love unconditionally, it gets you up because nothin else can. I’ll put work in for a dog any day.

Isn't it funny how we can value other people/ animals/ beings but not ourselves? I'm a giving and empathetic person by nature, but I tend to attract needy, draining, taking people. At least my dog is kind and supportive which is more than most people. He always makes me smile and laugh. And he doesn't judge me or make me feel guilty when I have bad days. 100/10 would recommend a dog.

I couldn’t agree more. S’real hard for me to work with people though, not a people person. And my empathy is absolute shit when it comes to em. With animals it’s unconditional. Crazy how that works. But yeah, get a dog.
