Realizing I Had Borderline Personality Disorder

How did you know you had borderline personality disorder? when did you realize something was wrong? mine was last year I came to a realization that my behaviors were weird and my relationships with people were not consistent and it even damaged my relationship with one family member. I also engaged in risky and compulsive behaviors and sometimes I'd become antisocial after weeks prior of being outgoing. I also noticed sometimes I'd throw things in anger but I didn't mean it and would apologize quickly after. TW----- I also would self harm when I was 13 and sometimes when I was mad at myself or situations I'd get angry/emotional then like pinch myself or hit myself cause I was angry with myself. Then moments of rage and sadness I'd turn happy/okay within a few minutes of that episode.

There's this YouTube channel called the BPD bunch and they talk about all the criteria associated with BPD everyone that is speaking is in remission from it and they also talk about their experiences and their treatments and how they're doing now. It's really great I highly recommend it

I had never heard of it. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist at a Mental Health Assessment Centre.

When my emotions became too much as a kid I would literally hit myself in the head. That’s just the early stages. I started to realize my relationships were not normal and that I dealt with having fps. I would become super obsessed with this person and all that would matter is them.

Well they told my I had bio polar for years and then a year after a hospital visit my mom tells me that they told her that I was actually BPD and for some reason no one told me.

i did my own research on it for years but was too scared to actually talk to anyone about it. then my therapist and i would talk about abusers of mine and how some of them seemed to be displaying symptoms of bpd from these conversations i saw that my therapist wasn't like. weird about bpd like most professionals are. so i brought up that i have a lot of symptoms for it too. and then they picked up their dsm5, scanned the bpd criteria, and i could see it click into place when they realized i was right lol but yeah around when i was 18 or 19 i was starting to get suspicious that my feelings about people weren't normal. i've also had a long history of SH and self isolation, as well as just really dramatic emotions and mood swings as well. i don't think i brought it up to my therapist until i was about 23 or 24? something like that

Yeah I get that I noticed all of the mood swings I was going through and how it wasn't normal. I meet all the BPD criteria so that's how I knew I had it. Yeah I have periods of that too and right now it's a lot of mood swings and self isolation. I almost SH yesterday night but overpowered it and said no I just cried tho hysterically until my mood swings changed and I was happy again. Feel free to text me anytime about anything! 💕

Honestly the same, like almost exactly. But I also realized I got obsessed with people easily. I started SH at the age of ten or eleven and it didn't stop

I'm sorry you went through SH it's a pretty sad experience I still have the scars on my arms sadly. They never faded just the ones on my legs.

And the guy I had a mini crush on I literally made it more extreme than it was and like went through a whole emotional rollercoaster like I exaggerated so much now that I realize it I was like psycho!

Omg me too I get obsessed with people so quickly that's it unhealthy. Like during my first week of college I was like obsessed with all my friends who had different lives and all I thought about was them that I baked cookies to talk with them.
