I had radioactive iodine when I was 15, now I’m 29 and thinking about children. Has anyone had radioactive iodine and gotten pregnant afterwards? Was it extremely difficult to get pregnant? All of my research has terrified me.

@Journey2Peace thank you so much for your info! Yeah I feel like a lot of times I gain weight no matter what I’m eating or doing.

What has your research said? My doctor has been pushing that treatment on me but I have been hesitant

@Seashell01 in most studies it says that it does effect your egg supply. It will also effect every single hormone in your body once you are hypo. I have mentioned it to my doctor before but now that we are getting serious, I am terrified

@Catertot oh no. I had no idea. I’m hoping all goes well with you. If ever want to talk I’m here! I’m going to start trying for kids once I adjust to the new medication I’ll be taking.

@Brenday have them check all of your levels. vitamin and mineral levels, thyroid levels, and hormone levels. Your thyroid controls everything so it will throw you completely out of whack

I had the radioactive idione treatment when I was 23/24. At that time, I had already had one child and didn't plan to have anymore. Fast forward to 30 and I remarried and got pregnant and had to be put back on thyroid meds for the sake of the baby because my body was not producing any. 2 years later I got pregnant again. Getting pregnant was not an issue for me. The only problem I had was producing milk. Apparently the thyroid gland plays a major role in milk production. Who knew?! 🤷🏽‍♀️ Whatever decision you make try to get as much information as possible. I wasn't well informed when I took the idione, my doctor just told me I would never have to take thyroid meds again, which is not true. Now I have hypo-active thyroid and weight fluctuates like crazy.
