Tips for managing PTSD symptoms

I was just recently diagnosed with PTSD as of this year and I am looking for tips on how to manage symptoms (besides medicine, which I am taking). I just can't stop and pull over everytime I have a flashback when I'm driving, or have my chest tighten when I hear a siren.

Try EMDR therapy if you can. It is a type of therapy specifically for trauma. They will help you process it while giving you coping skills. I have been doing this off and on for about the past year I feel like it has been helping me tremendously. These things that happened are slowly becoming less emotional and are just another chapter of my story.

Until you have some coping strategies in your tool belt I do recommend pulling over every time you’re having a flashback that prevents your ability to drive safely. In my experience there’s no skipping out on the flashbacks. Your brain is trying to tell you something and it will keep trying to until you understand what it’s trying to communicate by processing the trauma and validating those experiences.
