Scared of Methotrexate for Psoriatic Arthritis Treatment

My doctor wants me to take methotrexate to treat psoriatic arthritis. I am scared of the side effects so I’m holding off. I have quite a bit of pain in my hand and take meloxicam for that Does anyone have experience with methotrexate

I take cosentyx twice a month and it seems to be the only thing that helped my psoriatic arthritis until now! Now I have sores on almost all my fingers and they are super painful!!

i take the shot version and i would recommend that over the other options as long as you are okay with giving yourself injections

i take metho weekly at a .7 ml dose and it is extremely helpful for me combined with my humira weekly mostly i just get some nausea and headaches usually people get bad experiences with metho when they’re on too big of a dose starting out you need to ease into it slowly increasing for best results in my experience

I'm taking methotrexate, orally. Have some relief but not significant enough. They just increased my dosage this week. I take the folic acid every day as recommended to by my rheumatoid dr. Have never had any nausea from it. Maybe slight headache but not too bad.

It sucks!! It didn't work for me but unfortunately our medical needs n wants are 2 different things. You have to fail so many meds in order to get a biologic/injection. I failed 7 medications before getting Tremfya injection πŸ’‰. I'm on it almost 6m and I see SOME results but not 100%. Nothing will ever be. Good luck in whatever you try!!

I too was afraid and asked for something else. I’m now on Otezla and Cosentyz injections once a month. I’m having good results.

I'm taking methotrexate. Some nausea and headaches initially but that got better. I also take Lyrica and Tramadol. Sorry you're having such a hard time. I have also had relief with warm Parafin dips. They have machines or a crock pot works to melt the wax. You can add essential oil. I also have warming mitts for hands and feet. Kind of like heating pads for your hands and feet. Wishing you pain relief. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

I'm on weekly injection of Methotrexate. I got mild nausea and headaches. Went away gradually. I just decided headache and nausea better than the damage to my joints without.

Really helped with painful flares. I started at low dose and gradually increased. There's no treatment I'm aware of that lacks suffer effects or risk. Have to weigh the factors, pros and cons. Do what works best for you. I have significant medication (serious) allergies (NSAIDS aspirin ect.) so I always investigate. But I'm usually glad I took the risk. Wishing you wellness. πŸ’œ

Can you take an injectable? The longer you're in pain, the more damage is happening. I was un medicated for 2-3 months from the on-set to Ruematologist appointment. The pain was unbearable. I am now on humira once a week. Sooo happy. I have no experience with methotrexate. I started out with and stayed with humira.

I’m afraid of biological too. The side effects. Also my reasoning is it’s just my hand. Why take strong meds. But the pain is unbearable too sometimes
