Feeling Worthless: Comparing My Productivity to Others

sometimes I get in my head about how my peers are more productive than me. a lot of the times, the people around me seem to have more time throughout the day, more energy to do all of the things. so often I feel so....worthless, trying to achieve the same number of check boxes as them and coming up short. it always feels like it's because they can handle more stress than me, they're better at sucking it up, that I'm being a baby... I think it just hit me that it literally takes me more energy to be a l i v e than the people around me. say we all had 100 energy units to make it through the day, just to focus on tasks i have to expend 10 energy more per task, or 25 more just for starting the day, or what have you. at the end, of course they did more things, they had more fluid energy! days like today I'm just trying to be compassionate towards myself. has anyone else had this kind of experience?

Yes, I know what that feeling is like. You description reminds me of the spoon analogy that I've heard of before when it comes to energy management.

i relate sm, and i always feel like my friends are throwing a pitty party for me. i don’t need it, and ik they’re just worried about me bc everyday i wake up i wish i hadn’t woken up, but i feel like such burden on them for always making them so worried about me.

i feel you and it's so amazing that you want to be more compassionate with yourself! learning more about MCT (mindful self compassion) has been a game changer for me, even though i still struggle with those feelings of frustration/inadequacy sometimes. kristin neff's book helped me understand the basics, but i highly recommend using her workbook. doing the exercises really helps you build a practice of being kind and loving to yourself ❤️

I have this experience nearly all of the time! 😂 You know, it’s NEVER, EVER a good thing to compare yourself to others. People online only share their biggest highlights of their lives and and never their personal problems. I have had that problem with my sister and my ex-friend for most of my youth. But I have recently been working on myself to not make any more comparisons to other people. I have learned over the years that I have my own special talents and unique traits, skills and character. The same is true for you and everyone else in this app right now. Please don’t feel worthless anymore. Your time will come soon enough. Also, there are many ways to cure boredom and recover from mental burnouts. What I do is to make a to- do list of what I can do on my down time. For example, you can make a list of your favorite interests such as your hobbies, chores, learning a subject like Foreign Language, do some Yoga, make jewelry, go for a walk, go shopping, make artwork, etc. If you happen to list too many, don't worry. Try not to feel overwhelmed and anxious about it. Just take a few deep breaths, relax and meditate for 15 minutes. All of the stuff you wrote on your To-do list can be completed at anytime whenever you're ready to do so.

Yes…have you heard of the spoon theory? If you haven’t, go ahead and search it on google. It will be the exact same thing you just said and I think you will like reading about it. I relate a lot. Being chronically sick does this and the world does not cater to us. It caters to the able.

I completely relate! It’s made it so hard to stay on top of literally everything. I would love to be one of those “clean girls” that make this amazing healthy food, exercise, read books, complete school work, and have this awesome structured day that is so lovely and healthy but I physically can’t get myself to do even half of those things in one day!
