Possible Autism or ADHD Diagnosis

I think I’m autistic or possibly ADHD. I’ve done research and taken some tests online (pretty in-depth medical ones) and I’m pretty sure it’s autism but my best friend brushes it off as “my uncles autistic and you’re nothing like him”.

No two people on the autism spectrum are alike, in my opinion. There are soooo many factors that are affected by autism. Certain factors may be severely affected in one person, but hardly show up in another. But proceed with caution with online tests and self-diagnosis. See if you can get in to see a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist for more information.

Hi, autism is a very broad spectrum and there are also those with very high functioning and those with low functioning. Therefore, even if your friend knows a certain autistic person it does not mean that they are all exactly the same. If this is how you feel, maybe you should get a professional diagnosis.

hiya. I agree with everything you said, I just want to let you, and the poster, know that functioning labels can be seen as harmful by many autistics. They are used to assess how an autistic person's behaviour affects the outside world and not themselves and also ignores masking, which is the reason so many diagnoses are missed or ignored.
