So I’m a college student who was recently diagnosed with a pilonidal cyst. I had it drained a month ago and all was well, but now the doctor says it’s coming back. They said I should see a surgeon to have it completely removed. Has anyone ever gotten theirs surgically removed? I’ve never had a “real” surgery (just like wisdom teeth removal) and the thought terrifies me.

I got it summer after high school 18 y/o I had 3 surgery’s to remove mine(came back twice) doc said to scrub it hard to help stop it from growing back which was really hard cause that fucking hurt but is also hurt to walk after awhile each day luckily I was able to sit fain free a few days after the fist surgery but my back was in a lot of pain till I was able to sit/walk again. The other 2 surgeries they left the hole open and we packed/changed the gauze 3 times a day and I wore pads everyday finally felt like it was gone around age 25 it’s it’s a high traffic area so it’s hard to heal

@Bel98 I don’t know if that would even be an option for me. I go to college in the middle of nowhere and the only type of surgeon in a couple hour radius from me that is qualified to help is a general surgeon.
