Physical Issues and Autism: Anyone Else?

So, weird question. Does anybody here have extreme physical issues that kinda play into autism? Like I have this thing where the more “brain fog” I have, the worse my skills are like walking and talking. People think I am drunk because of it, but I’m not. It just.. really only happens with the brain fog or when I have a breakdown, meltdown, etc.

Sometimes I get like this, my parents ask me if I'm high but I'm not. I'm just kinda not functioning well in the moment.

I have tremors or physical jerk like movements that happen more when I am overwhelmed. It does impact my speech at times but I will have to pay attention to my walking and other movements now.

Hypermobility is related to neurodivergence and can cause lots of these things. I have heds.

I tend to space out and forget things at work a lot. I think I unconsciously developed a "worksona" that's cheerful and a bit ditzy so I get away with a lot more 😅 Still not a great thing to deal with in a healthcare setting

I get really bad at speaking sometimes. It’s probably because I’ve gone nonverbal but I wasn’t allowed to do that as a child so I don’t allow myself now…

I've had something similar but when I eat a sweet snack I really enjoy, I get giddy with excitement and start flapping my hands a little bit. People stare but I don't care 😂

that's a happy stim! Stimming and loss or fluctuations in motor skills are very different symptoms but they are both potential parts of autism. Hand flapping is actually one of the more talked about stims I've seen probably because it's one of the more visible ones, but there are a lot of different types and they can be used to help regulate any strong emotions or over/under stimulation.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's almost like your limbs are moving through water and they're super stiff, at least for me. I don't like when people get mad about it or anything because it's just something you can't help, and it definitely feels helpless sometimes when you really want to or need to do something.

I’ve had multiple people tell me that they thought I was high the first time they met me because of how I speak and move. It was very confusing the first time a stranger asked if I “had any on me” when I was a kid.

oh that's a mood, I actually move and talk like that much less when I'm high, unless I'm too high but then I'm not leaving my room, but people still ask me if im high when I'm sober bc of the way I walk and talk naturally. Including during several year at a time periods where I was completely sober but constantly being accused of being high.

Idk if it counts but my pregnancy has made all of my artistic symptoms way worse. Plus some of the pregnancy symptoms has made it really had to just exist in my own skin rn.

Autism effects your nervous system so it does have physical symptoms including a decrease in motor skills! Speech impediments and other language skill delays are also common in people with autism and both can get worse when your needs aren't taken care of. Autism also can effect your ability to feel things the way people typically do because it effects your introspection which.

Worse the physical disability gets, seemingly the worse the autism gets too. Our coordination and walking control fails when we have episodes, tone immediately becomes harsh to monotone, sometimes we need help to type and can't eat (i.e. swallow and chew) because our episodes makes autism worse somehow.

Oh my god. So I’m not alone? Because typing sometimes is so difficult. And like talking is just.. I slur my words.. My mom has threatened to drug test me multiple times because of it
