Need advice on persistent ear infection

hey guys so at least a month ago now my partner started having problems with his ears, one in particular tho. he had all the clasdic ear infection symptoms, such as blocked ears, which made it harder to hear, alot of ear pain, things like that, weird thing is this actually spread overtime to his eye, his eye got red and it was stinging alot. he went to the doctor and the doctor gave him tabs for an ear infection to bring the swelling down and to get rid of an infection essentially. he finished all the tablets and his ears swelling went down, but it was still blocked and sore, and now swelling is coming back. so about 2 days ago i went from being fine to my ear being blocked as hell as well, mine is mainly blocked and swollen but not as sore. we have been using ear drops but i think it makes it feel worse. anyone have any idea what we could be experiencing as this sounds like it could be more then your typical ear infection. sorry for the long story.
