My partner likes going on walks/ runs at night. They're afab and i get really really worried about them, because they go out past midnight. Our neighborhood is pretty safe and everything, but it still makes me really anxious. I dont want to tell them I dont want them to go because I dont want to be controlling or something like that. They keep telling me that theyll be safe and nothing will happen. but I just keep imagining them getting hurt or something happening to them and I end up having a panic attack. A big part of it is that they dont seem to acknowledge that there's any danger at all. I know that they're probably going to be ok, but im just stuck in a cycle of thinking they wont be.

@Squishh have you brought up how uncomfortable them ignoring ot makes you? That does definitely come across as at least somewhat irresponsible and counterintuitive, if there's any danger at all ignoring it only helps the attacker and no one else. Could you maybe suggest one of those hidden self defense items like keychains or jewelry that they like and can wear at any/all times so they get used to it and aren't as immediately aware of it being a self defense tool while they still have it on them?

Have you told them that you're worried? Saying you're worried for them won't sound controlling. Just tell them how you feel, that you're worried and you feel like they don't take it very seriously. Maybe suggest that they bring some sort of weapon in case they get in danger, that could really help.

Try suggesting that he carry one of those personal alarm keychains on his keys or something. All he'd have to do is pull on it, and it would start emitting a VERY loud, piercing, high-pitched sound frequency that would alert everyone in the general area, as well as (hopefully) scare off any potential attacker.

I think it's a good thing to discuss in this day and age right now how to be safer. People have been so backwards...
@bambipony @KeiXyr they dont want to bring self defense things because it makes them focus on the possible danger and they orefer to just ignore it, but yes it would help me if they did that
@AnimalBoy i havent tried that, but I'll mention it to them later! Thank you!
@AnimalBoy You could also suggest some form of martial arts/self defense courses and practice since that can also work as decent exercises even if you never have the intention of using it
Mace and/or firearm would make it safer :)
Would you feel more comfortable if they had self defense devices on them? Something like window breakers or a stun gun? To carry a stun gun you will need to check country/state laws and make sure to read safety manuals, but it's all pretty simple, and I feel much safer carrying one on me.
