Many parents feel like it’s a failiure of theirs if their child is struggling with mental/emotional health. In order to block out this feeling of failure they question the validity of the issues. After all they did so much they can’t imagine it would be not enough. What could be wrong? That sinking feeling that something foundational is missing but you don’t know what it is. I try to be sensitive of this when I’m trying to talk to my parents.
