Pain Management vs Sleeping Pill: A Difficult Choice

The doctors at the local (and only) pain clinic are making me choose between pain management and my sleeping pill. I've had insomnia my entire life. I go to bed at 4am without my pill. I also can't function at the level of pain I'm having. What do I do?

I have struggled with insomnia and started on Topamax for headache prevention and it really surprised me how well it helped my sleep. I got off of it since it wasn't helping my headaches all that much and really miss the amazing sleep I got. That may be something worth giving a shot if you haven't tried it and they are willing to prescribe it for you.

Can you try melatonin for a bit, maybe combined with meditation before bed?

Melatonin does nothing for my severe insomnia

Try getting Tizanidine for your pain and muscles. It makes you really sleepy. I'm on 4mg and no problem getting to sleep now

It really doesn't work. Lunesta is the only thing that puts me to sleep. Even the pain meds won't do that

No other sleep med has worked for me, and no, the pain clinic won't let me have pain medication if I'm on ANY sleep med
