Overthinking ADHD Diagnosis

Thank you for replying to my last post! I have decided to get evaluated to get adhd medication. Now I’m totally overthinking it though and feel like I’m making up my adhd symptoms. Idk why I feel guilty for asking for help but anyways thanks!

Don't listen to that voice. I did that forever and only just recently finally got my diagnosis and the medication is such a game changer for me, that I cried the first day I took it! I couldn't believe I struggled so hard for so long when it didn't have to be that way! Just describe your symptoms to your doctor and trust that if they diagnose you, odds are pretty good that you have it. Plus the medication doesn't hype us up, or at least not me. If anything, I can take a nap immediately because my head and my body gets so calm, it's a breath of fresh air. Just.. see if looking into help makes things better. Trust your gut, and don't fight help. Plus.. If I could get anyone young struggling with these symptoms to take them seriously, I'll feel like I didn't waste my life, so you'll be doing me a favor 😅.. kidding.

thank you! Yeah, I think I’m really overthinking it. Also, I’m super embarrassed about asking for medication lol. I feel like I’m getting an unfair advantage. I know it’s irrational but idk why I think that sometimes. I try to convince myself that my symptoms aren’t that bad lol.

I'm sorry you have imposter syndrome, remember, you are not making this up! If you're struggling, you are. You wouldn't be struggling if you could choose not to be! I hope that makes sense

Imposter syndrome is real for us! Until I get medicated/treated for something I ALWAYS feel like I’m making it up or being dramatic.

that's a really good point, maybe sometimes we don't want to think we have something because we don't want to identify with it
