Hi!! I'm hoping to get started on the Omnipod this summer and have a question about methods of filling the pod. I know that the intended way is with a vial and the included syringe, but I've used pens for about 12 years and really dread having to go back to vials. I was wondering if a pen could be used to fill the pod AND still be able to be used as a back up in case I am out somewhere and the pod has an error. Also, are vials able to stay out of the refrigerator now once opened? When I was first diagnosed, my mom had to lug a cooler bag around everywhere we went. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Hmm. I donā€™t know. I stopped ordering pens after switching to OmniPod.

You can use the included syringe to get insulin out of the pen, but Iā€™m not sure that the pen will be functional after you do that.

@JCK Do you know if you can fill the pod directly with a pen needle and just dial up the units you need for the pod? Then keep the remaining insulin in the pen as back up?
