Hi!! I'm hoping to get started on the Omnipod this summer and have a question about methods of filling the pod. I know that the intended way is with a vial and the included syringe, but I've used pens for about 12 years and really dread having to go back to vials. I was wondering if a pen could be used to fill the pod AND still be able to be used as a back up in case I am out somewhere and the pod has an error. Also, are vials able to stay out of the refrigerator now once opened? When I was first diagnosed, my mom had to lug a cooler bag around everywhere we went. šµāš«

Hmm. I donāt know. I stopped ordering pens after switching to OmniPod.
You can use the included syringe to get insulin out of the pen, but Iām not sure that the pen will be functional after you do that.
@JCK Do you know if you can fill the pod directly with a pen needle and just dial up the units you need for the pod? Then keep the remaining insulin in the pen as back up?
