Struggling with OCD at Work

My ocd has really affected my ability to work. I have a decent job, But it’s in food service and it can be extremely hard. I come home and scrub myself down with rubbing alcohol, the skin on my hands is so raw from hand sanitizer and washing. Possibly the worst thing is dishes, I cannot handle the thought and feeling and smell of doing dishes. I want to help and be a good employee but It’s like nobody would understand how my condition affects my behaviors.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with that @dystopian. I can relate in a different way. I was let go from my job of 6 years, the last 3 were extremely difficult I was always late to work because of my ocd, I had desk job, because if my need to have anything perfect I was always behind and had very low output, because if my ADHD-C I found it very hard to focus on boring, repetitive or monotonous tasks, which every desk job has. Shortly after u was let go the pandemic hit and I was out of a job for almost two years. I now have a job that is so perfect for me, I always worried that I would never be able to work because of my disabilities, but I found a job the was perfect for my strengths while downplaying my weakness. There is hope! I work from home in a call center for the state, really good pay and benefits, I answer people's questions about business licensing and taxes. I don't have to leave the house and practically NO paperwork. I get to talk to people all day, help, and teach which are my strengths. Right now it such a sweet job opportunity for those with disabilities. There is such a had need for employees and almost every company has the option for employees to work from home, excellent flexibility for those of us with disabilities. I realize this doesn't work for everyone but it does work for some. I hope you can find the perfect for for you! Keep looking, keep questing! You are amazing and kick-ass. I had to go through a very long season of worry before I found my just right. 💕🙌 Blessings in your journey.

Hello! I had a similar problem in middle school. Every day I would come home and take a shower, and I would wipe off the doorknobs and fridge/oven handles near constantly. What helped me was starting to limit how much i could do it. I started super slow and listened to myself about what was too much. I'm still a neat freak and clean high-traffic areas in my home frequently, but I've been able to get it down to a much more manageable level. That and substitutions have been super helpful to me. Have you tried an antibacterial hand soap? That might be nice to try. There are also sanitizing lotions that can help your skin heal

Forgot to add this: have you tried cleaning gloves? They're the rubber (i think) gloves that go up to your elbows

Hi friend! My doctors have recently been working to get me diagnosed with OCD and I've never really realized what OCD can actually be! I don't struggle as much in my workplace but I do struggle at home with laundry and dishes it can be frustrating and sometimes I just cry!! We just have to realize that we're not faking It. it is a medical condition and if doing a certain task is affecting your health you should definitely talk to maybe your employer 🤷 just like someone with a peanut allergy can't be around peanuts! I know I'm just 18 and haven't been dealing with this too long I just want you to know that I sympathize. it's hard to have an invisible illness!

im also 18 and my family is not very helpful with my OCD... it's hard to tell them that there are some things that I really need them to do
