Diet does help for sure but being a type 1 diabetic means insulin is the only way. I have been a type 1 diabetic since I was 18 yrs old and I’m 33 now. When I was diagnosed I was still a teenager and thought I was invincible but I’m here to tell you that it is very dangerous and has many horrible consequences to not keep your sugars under control. For about 10 years after diagnosis I did not take my insulin very rarely checked my sugars and ate and drank whatever I wanted. It was a huge mistake because now I have almost completely lost my vision and have had to have injections put in my eyes for 2 years and have had a lot of very painful laser treatments done them along with developing cataracts. Also it cause fatty liver disease, kidney failure, hyperthyroidism, neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, and gastroparesis. I’m completely miserable now and extremely sick. I was also in a diabetic coma for over 2 weeks and hospitalized for over a month. I highly incourage every diabetic to take the illness very seriously. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to when I was diagnosed and do everything differently.
