New Back Pain at Night

My back pain is new- I haven't been evaluated yet but one thing that sticks out about my back is it doesn't bother me until I lay down at night- then the pain get excruciating and radiates into my left hip and sometimes down my leg. I ice it, take advil and recently Gabapentin for it yet struggle all night sleeping because of the severe pain. Has anyone had similar back pain?

I have degenerative disc disease in my L5 disc, and this is the EXACT pain I feel. Does yours also get worse if you lay flat on your stomach? My spine feels like it can’t straighten out, and my hips feel like they are pushing apart sometimes. Sorry you have to be in pain like that too :/

I can't lay on my left side due to bersitis in left hip,so,I like laying on right side but the pull of my left leg makes the pain in left hip worse, but,my hubby and I took a softer pillow and mad a makeshift bolster pillow out of it.Wrapped it with ACE bandages and put a case over it I lay on my back and he puts it under the bend if my legs.It has been wonderful.I have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. I saw a well know back Dr about my hip about 6 weeks ago.His words were," If your lower back wasn't so bad,you would be having this problem." Office manner leaves a few things to be desired, but,he's good. His remark caught me off guard,so,I don't ask what he meant. Try the pillow thing and see if it helps.I can't believe the difference.

I had a diseconomy laminectomy L5S1 in September of last year. It took about a year of failed steroid injections & physical therapy before my surgeon agreed to the procedure. I’m about 80% better but not quite a year out. Most doctors will make you do the PT and injections first. It can help some people but if it’s not helping speak up. The surgery itself was minimally invasive, no overnight hospital stay. I don’t regret having it done at all. I do feel that if my doctors had done it sooner I would have had a better outcome. I overcompensated using my right leg due to the pain of using my left side so now I am having to strengthen one side of my body which has been difficult. Good luck to you all, I know that pain & it’s absolute misery.

how long did you start felling yourself again, I did my second back surgery a month ago, I'm very very tired, I feel I want to sleep all the time. Some left leg pain and numbness. But way better than be4 the surgery. I cant do anything.

PT and injections are temporary relief. That's what I consider surgery
