Hello! Is there any other neurodivergent (not necessarily just people with ADHD) that tend to copy to things that they here/ see people do?Like I’ve be binging (hyperfixating 😔) an Irish YouTuber and now my inner voice sounds Irish and I’m using Irish words. There was also a time when I was consuming a lot of British media, so I started using British slang and stuff (im from the US)

The absolute worst is when I mimic someone's accent when speaking to them 😬🙄 So, yes!

This has two parts. 1. The way a voice develops is by hearing those around you while you are young. So, even if you aren't southern, if momma and dad are, your voice may sound pretty dang southern because of how a voice develops. 2. There was about a month when I was a teenager that I spoke a bit with a British accent on accident because I was binging Dan and Phil often.

So yea this def happens to me. Alllllllll of the time. Actually it’s my biggest trigger for saying to myself, “why am I like this?!”

Yup it's called Echolalia! There was a period of time that I echoed a British accent for like 6mo but I more frequently echo phrases or words. I even have a couple of neurodivergent mutuals on another social media site that echo their echoes.

Yes. I still do it. I try to catch it and ask "why am I doing this is there a purpose" usually there isnt

yeah definitely. i think it's called echolalia when you repeat things that you hear. i think it might be a different thing when your inner monologue switches entirely though. back when i was in high school taking spanish classes, my brain would switch into spanish thinking mode and i wouldn't be able to switch back to english internally, even though i wasn't fluent in spanish. super frustrating!!!

Absolutely, lately, I've tried to just adapt an overtly country accent in order to avoid copying and its mostly worked. I remember 10 years ago when I was starting to sound like pewdiepie though lol
