hi so I just got prescribed Topamax and I'm really nervous to start taking it because of the side affects, my doctor assures me it's fine, but this whole memory loss with my already bad memory it's giving me a lot of anxiety about starting it. to those who take it or have taken it, how are you doing? is it worth it?

Ive been on topamax since roughly 2015 i take 100mgs 2xs a day, honesty its been a life saver for me. Ive personally been on a few different medications for my epilepsy and this is by far the best one. The only side effects i had was anything carbonated tastes absolutely horrible! And it made my feet numb and tingling at times in the beginning but all that went away. Its also helped tremendously with migranes that i used to get that i dont anymore.

I believe I have permanent short term memory loss from topamax

I should also add I deal with a lot of mental health issues already and topamax didn’t affect any of them

i’ve been taking topamax for about 4 months now. I have no clue how much it’s really helping. when I went to 100mg I felt like I could barley stay awake so I went back down to 75mg. i’ve been at 75mg for like 3 months now and haven’t had any noticeable side effects. other than being extremely tired, I didn’t have any side effects. I also deal with being tired a lot, but it was a different tired, like I couldn’t keep my eyes open at work type of thing. In terms of topamax actaully helping my migraines, i’m not really sure. at my 3 month follow up with my neurologist I was averaging about 3-5 migraines a month, which is more than he wanted but was a lot less than I was getting before. I’m not like In love with the medication but I don’t hate it either. I hope this helps!!

I was given that too. The side affects worried the crap out of me so I opted out. It was the sudden aggression and violence mixed with suicide attempts for me. I flushed them without hesitation.
