Looking for natural remedies for psoriasis

I've had psoriasis for about 10 years now. It's gotten better, then worse, then better, etc. It's endlessly frustrating and sometimes painful. It's mostly on my knees, shins, and elbows. More recently (past year) it's come and gone on the backs of my hands and the tops of my feet. Very recently (last 4ish months) it's migrated to my palms, soles of my feet, my upper inner thighs, and my fingernails (they're brittle and they peel and chip whenever they grow out at all). I have not been to a derm yet, I have to make an appointment in a town an hour away and I will have to miss work, so I am still working on making it to that. But I've been hunting for a more natural remedy that I don't have to go to the Dr for, don't have to take a heavy duty pill or get injections (I know I will wind up needing one or both of those at some point in the near future, but I am trying to avoid it). I've tried a lot of lotions, creams and salves, and most help a minimal or moderate amount, but not enough to be worth using regularly. There are a few products and brands that I've tried that work pretty well, most are all-natural and handmade by a small business. I don't know if I am able to post links publicly, so I'll put them in a comment or you can message me for them. But I have found that certain ingredients across the spectrum of products I've tried make a bigger impact on my psoriasis (itchiness, pain and discomfort, plaque growth speed and thickness, recurrence vs recession, etc). *NOT A DOCTOR, NOT MEDICAL ADVICE, NOT A CURE, JUST MY EXPERIENCES AND OPINIONS* Butters! Shea butter and cocoa butter. They are thick and they feel wonderful. Don't do much for itching for me, but they are great for deep moisturizing. Oils! Jojoba, sweet almond, coconut, avocado. They all have moisturizing properties, and I've experienced jojoba and sweet almond give me some level of relief from itching. There's plenty of other oils out there to look into, but some are definitely better than others for psoriasis. Essential oils! Lavender, tea tree, frankincense, myrrh, etc. If they are in a salve or cream, I've found that some combination of those make a much bigger impact on the psoriasis plaques and discomfort. Tea tree specifically. Tallow/lard!! Didn't know this was a thing to use on the skin, but a local company (JML Soaps - Skin Food Solid Lotion) has locally raised and processed tallow/lard in their lotions. It is AMAZING. Super moisturizing and soothing. It's one of my favorite ingredients. Brands! JML Soaps (specifically, Skin Food Solid Lotion) - wonderful for if you don't want to deal with rubbing lotion in all over or if you need more concentrated/localized moisture in a hurry. I use this on the soles of my feet and palms of my hands regularly and I've repurchased it many times. Their whipped body butters and soaps are amazing too!! Birchgrove Botanicals (zeep aftercare shop on Etsy) is unique, they have so many ingredients in their salves. Actually just placed an order for their eczema/psoriasis salve and psoriasis lotion, I'll update how they are when I get them. Cerave- their moisturizing cream is pretty good, it's soothing and doesn't leave me all greasy. It is thick, but I prefer that, it lasts longer for me. A&D ointment - for spots that are painful, very itchy, or have split open, this is the only thing I use. It soothes EVERYTHING. Palmers - when I want to smell like chocolate and also use a thick and comfortable lotion, this is what I reach for. Simplified - Therapeutic Skin Salve. Found this in the natural product section of a local pharmacy, and it's quite soothing. It helps calm down any discomfort for a short period of time. Benadryl anti-itch cream - I've been using hydrocortisone cream, and it usually works, but I have to switch between the two fairly often on the soles of my feet and my palms in order to get relief from the itching I hope this helps!! Etsy is a great place to find natural products, and I personally prefer supporting small businesses and makers over big brands. Let me know your opinions! And if you've found a good home/natural remedy!

Thank you so much for sharing all this info. My mom had psoriasis pretty bad. She passed away 14 years ago. I'm just starting to see some patches around the top of my ear lobes in my ear and the soles of my feet are starting to crack. My scalp is always itchy my husband says it looks like dandruff but I'm not sure if it's starting there too. I'm going to look into some of this.. thank you for all the information.

I also got some Bee Balm from Black Hills Honey Farm the other day, and it's been working wonders on my palms and soles when I put it on regularly. But benadryl cream and hydrocortisone cream are what I reach for when my feet are itching so bad I want to scratch them with a razor blade 🙃

you're very welcome!! You're welcome to message me if you want to. For the soles of your feet, put a thick salve or ointment on them at night, wrap in plastic wrap or a plastic bag, and then put socks on over it. My Dr recommended that to me and it works wonders. If anything cracks and hurts really bad, put a&d on it. And if it looks like dandruff but you're getting psoriasis in other places, it's probably psoriasis on your scalp 😕
