You need a fidget to keep your hands busy. I like to crochet when I have to sit for long periods of time. I still catch myself skin picking throughout the day so I’m learning to replace it with a fidget ?

Instead of biting the nail off nibble on the tip of the nail lightly and then do that less and less till you don't chew your nails I did it and I don't feel the need to rip my nails apart I mean I still bite but I bite down to a normal nail length and stop

@Liz93 I definitely agree! I need to fidget and I recently invested in some fidget putty and it has been a game changer!

I have the same problem too and some times bite bits of flesh off on my hands when I'm anxious or frustrated. Now when I feel anxious or frustrated, I play word searches and a game named Sudoku. It gets my mind off of things and calms me down. Hope this helps. 🤗🤗

I've been biting my nails since I was in preschool and I'm in my early 20s now (and i hate admitting that). I've done it so long that I just hide my nails from others since my nails are so short, bitten, and have ripped cuticles. I've had times where I stopped for a few months but would start again. My mother was a nail biter as well and when I asked her how she stopped, she simply said "I just... stopped. There's not really much you can do other than to just stop." And I of course understood to an extent what she meant, but the only things that have helped me the most is nail biting polish that tastes super nasty and bitter to where it'll become almost like a reflex to not bite or else you'll taste that awful polish again. Also, I will sometimes cover a couple of my nails in bandaids so that I can atleast leave those nails alone while I pick or bite the other ones and I just build up from there. Again, with bad habits comes relapse and setbacks and please know if you ever stop biting for a bit and start again, please try your best to not shame yourself or get angry at yourself. I'm guilty of being hard on myself for biting again as well, but relapse is part of the healing journey regardless of the habit and it doesn't make you weak. And what works for me may not work for you or the next person, but I do hope you'll be able to find some good remedies that'll best help you with that habit. Good luck!!

I pick the skin around my nails all the time. Doctors initially thought it was anxiety, but here I am with low anxiety still picking the skin.

@nerascape for me it is my shoulders and any acne I have

@nerascape yeah I usually do this because of anxiety but also because I’m also always hyped and the only thing that really keeps me sane is biting/picking my nails and skin.

yes!!! i’ve had this problem for years and just recently stopped within the past 2 years! wearing a mask because of the pandemic helped me to stop, because i couldn’t bite them haha. but now i’ve found myself biting them again. when i was younger i used to wear this clear nail polish that would stop me from biting my nails because it tasted bad, but then i bit that off too. maybe it might help you though! the masks are what finally helped me to stop!
