Missed Diagnosis by Rheumatologist

Has anyone had a rheumatologist that just completely missed something of importance? I found out from my new one that my body was rejecting my previous treatment because I have some weird anti-drug antibody in my system. Shouldn’t my last rheumatologist have noticed this?

This is why second opinions can be really important

I love my rheumatologist but in my lupus support group I heard horror stories about how patients can be treated by the one specialist that should understand what we go through- which extends to not considering that we have rarish reasons for feeling certain ways like why you weren’t responding to your treatment. I hope with your new rheumatologist you’re able to find a treatment plan that provides some relief💕

my new rheumatologist seems wonderful so far! I haven’t started my new treatment yet due to insurance dragging their feet. And it stinks because I’ve been off any treatment since January. I’m really feeling it. All the pesky flare ups.

My 1st rheumatologist was this old white guy who should have just retired with his ideologies... but when I walked in he laughed and asked why I thought I thought I had autoimmune issues. Well I had 2 already and alot of unexplainable pain. He dismissed me a sent me back to my primary. I was so mad and embarrassed as was my primary since they're of the same group/building. She apologized and sent me to an arthritis center 2hrs away where I was instant diagnosed with fibromyalgia, then RA, then PsA....but yeaaaah there was nothing wrong with me lol

luckily I got a diagnosis pretty quickly. But I feel like my 1st rheumatologist dropped the ball a lot. She never noticed that my body was rejecting the treatment. And because she only did one series of X-rays at the start she never saw that the psoriatic arthritis was starting to deteriorate some of my joints. My podiatrist pointed out last year before Thanksgiving that it was in my feet. Showed me on an X-ray he took of my broken foot… that was my sign to find a new rheumatologist.
