When I was about 7 I started having absence seizures. My doctor misdiagnosed me with ADHD (which I have developed but I know for sure it wasn’t epilepsy). He put me on ADHD meds that made me very sick. Has anyone else been misdiagnosed this badly?

I was diagnosed with grand male epilepsy at 10 and put on Tegratol for it. After 6 years of having hundreds of petit mal fits a day and, effectively, being a zombie, I found out at 16 that I actually had petit mal and was finally put on Epilim, the correct medication.

@KimberlyS the healthcare system has failed too many of us..and it’s sad that there’s so many more people who don’t use this app that have probably struggled with this
Oh yeah I went into the doctor for my first grand mal seizure and they thought I had passed out because my period was so heavy that they tried putting me on birth control even though I knew it wasn’t because of my period. 3 more seizures and 6 months later i’m in the E.R. where they tell me they think i had a grand mal seizure, a week later they diagnosed me with epilepsy. It really pissed me off. how could the doctors be soooo wrong? I’m sorry you went through that. you shouldn’t have. doctors should do more tests instead of just basing their diagnosis’s off of a theory.

@kennys25 my fiancé recently had a minor stroke and they misdiagnosed him as having a panic attack 🙃 like really?! ugh
My mom was diagnosed with chemical depression, when really, it was bipolar!
Same exact thing happened when I was 6 then they thought it was an attitude issue then it got worse I saw a psychiatrist they said it was more then that and they did an mri and found the adenoma then the seizures got worse was diagnosed with epilepsy not long after
@malks i was actually diagnosed with epilepsy when i was 16 after i had my first grand mal seizure and i felt a lot of resentment for everyone not getting me help before. i’m glad i’m not the only one the health care system failed
@signature_sauce my first grand mal I was 10 at 16 they nearly killed me with the wrong medication making it worse but around 19 I had surgery haven't seized unless I was sick in several years
