Ask about post-op pain management. I had laparoscopic surgery for my mesh-repair hernia, and the post-op pain in surgical recovery was the most painful experience of my life, nothing else comes close. I was told the pain was from having my abdomens inflated prior to the laparoscope doing its thing. They sent me home hours later, under-medicated, barely able to move, still in overwhelming pain. Good luck. I hope yours is a better experience.
