Mental Illness and Romantic Relationships

Does anyone feel like you’re doomed to have a romantic relationship because of your mental illness?

We have been together for ten years and he’s seen me undiagnosed, in treatment, in psychosis, and properly diagnosed and medicated. There is hope and there are people who will love you and won’t run away, even when you think they should.

I’m with someone who also deals with mental illness so that helps with the understanding and relatability. Therapy helping me sort through trauma/medication management has helped tremendously…otherwise I would be so lost lol

I found my soulmate my senior year of highschool. I'm in college now and we live together with a cat, waiting for me to get a degree before we get married. He is my ROCK. Gives me massages when I'm in pain and helps me to take care of myself when it's difficult. He struggles with his own issues too, so I help him. It's all about being partners and helping each other. I used to be scared I was too crazy for him but he's studying psychology so he probably thinks it's interesting

I feel this way for any kind of relationship, even platonic.

Absolutely. It’s so hard to find people to also “put up with” individual illnesses. It effects everything 😩
