Do Mental Health Issues and Physical Ailments Go Hand in Hand?

has anybody else noticed that most if not all people with acid reflux also have anxiety and or depression? Same with Tourettes Syndrome and People going through years of stomach pain and no doctor being able to help. Thoughts?

Wow I've never considered that but yeah, I was diagnosed with GERD as a child, then diagnosed with depression in 2018 and anxiety last month.

I do agree. Some mornings I will wake up and get strong acid reflux. But I take a Tum and I'm fine

Your brain and gut are very closely connected, to the point where the nervous system in your abdomen is frequently referred to as the "second brain" due to its complexity. That's why stomach problems frequently co-occur with neuro- and psychological problems

thyroid issues can directly affect your digestion and your mental health, most of the time both

I have so many stomach problems omg 😭😭😭 acid reflux, heartburn every time I take a nap, random waves of nausea, the list goes on. And I don't doubt if not because of my physical issues, it's because of my slew of mental issues

I have acid reflux and anxiety/depression! I know there’s some connection between mental health an gi issues because of like the gut/brain axis, so maybe that has to do with it?

I absolutely agree with this. My acid reflux honestly can be on and off depending on my anxiety. It's super annoying. I was recently diagnosed with a hernia in my esophagus that is allegedly from the acid reflux and it makes it harder to eat, which makes my anxiety worse. We strugglin out here.

I agree with this. I have depressive disorder, anxiety, and OCD and have always had stomach issues/reflux.
