Medications for Depression: My Experience

Is anyone on medications for depression? I’ve been on meds the past 3 years and I haven’t had a depressive episode. It used to be so debilitating and I couldn’t function without being sad for no reason. Now that I’m medicated I’m glad that I don’t have these feelings but it’s almost like nothing phases me anymore. It’s like the total opposite of how I was before. Can anyone relate?

Do you think that you don't need to be on them? Is life a better now? Or do you think it meds are just working well? Is it worth the risk of getting off your meds?

I've have been on medicine for depression for years. I know what it's like to try and deal with depression with and without medicine. For me personally I don't like myself or the way I feel when I'm not on meds. I like being able to feel like me and not some crying person who doesn't know what's wrong. Sure I still have my days when I am a little depressed but a little is better than not being medicated for it for me.

I was on anti anxiety/anti depressants for years and hated that I had no feelings at all. I didn't care about anything. I got to a point that I was so "happy" that I went off my meds. It's been a year without them. I feel better but still learning coping skills.

I've been on two different meds for my depression: escitalopram (Lexapro) a few years ago, and now I'm on duloxetine (Cymbalta). The escitalopram didn't work that well and I felt much the same. I'm having better luck with duloxetine
