Dealing with Medication Side Effects

Hello! Currently I take clonidine 0.1 tab twice a day to control resistant hypertension. It works. However I am experiencing side effects such as headaches, bad sleep, hair loss. Should I stop taking it?

I take Propranolol XR and was having spikes. I was given clonidine as an add on as needed when bp elevated above 170/99. It worked in an emergency. It wasn't until I was prescribed hydralazine that the spikes stop and I no longer have to use clonidine as an add-on. My cardiologist told me that clonidine drops your blood pressure very quickly. But for most people makes them drowsy. If you don't like the way it makes you feel ask for medication change. Perhaps hydralazine would be a good one for you too. I was worried about making the change but it's been a lifesaver and it does not make me drowsy. Good luck!

Thank you! Do you take Hydralazine daily in combination with propranolol XR?

Hi my new-refried! Clonidine is a very powerful emergency drug and it seems to work better than all the previous high BP meds I had. However, I must talk to my doctor again to see if there is some other medication I can get to control my resistant high BP.

Have you told your doctor about those symptoms? I'm not familiar with that drug but those are side effects worth bringing up!
