Seeking Advice on Medication Options

I used to take medication for depression until I had to travel out of the country and forgot my meds. I started talking to a woman next to me on the plane and I happen to tell her that I forgot my meds and did not know what to do, well she happened to be a psychiatrist and told me not to take prescribed medications because with time it messes your head up even worse she suggested I take st johns wort and so when I got back I started taking it and I've been on it for 7years and works great for me with no side effects. The prescribed stuff was making me mean and nasty with people which was definitely not me and I hated it. It took about a month for me to feel the full effect of not being depressed with Stjohns wort. Natural meds are always better...
