Masking My Autism: The Struggle for Diagnosis

People doubted I had autism because of my communication skills and such. Honey it's all a mask. I've been masking my entire life. I saw how other people acted and I acted like them. I always have. And that is why it took so long to get a diagnosis.

Same here, I am not officially diagnosed, but I know that I most likely am autistic. But it took 18 years to be diagnosed with ADHD.

I literally had one of my social skills teachers say that I was way different than most of her students. Must be a compliment when the woman that is teaching you how not to be disabled says you don't look disabled lmao

9h my gosh... I feel this so hard right now. I'm 29 and I never woukd have thought I had autism because of how it is portrayed and the stigma. And then a few months some friends who have it talked about symptoms and what it was like and I had an ahuh moment and did some online tests. Now I am doing research and reading books and i am jaut like wow.... yesh that makes sense now, that lines up

Feeling this so much right now. Diagnosed this past summer and friends and family have pushed me into a toxic hermit mode with their own evaluations of me. I guess I picked crappy people to surround myself with all of this time.
