Sadly nothing has ever helped me. I've had this condition since I was a teenager, now I'm 48 and and it hasn't gotten any better. I struggle to climb steps especially coming down them which is scary because my knees give out on me all the time. Traveling is out of the question anymore because sitting and keeping them bent kills me. Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Tylenol are a joke. I don't know what to do anymore

I had patellofemoral syndrome for 2 1/2 years. Doctors couldn’t fix it. I found the kindle book “saving my knees” that got me in a healing mode. Sitting at a chair at work (I stand or use a elevated bar chair now at work) and landing on my heal when running I believed caused it. Walking about 2 miles a day and not sitting in a chair along with knee bends a 100 or so a day when I got healthy enough months into it cured it for me. It took about 9 months to a year to cure it. There is a Goldilocks zone in between too much exercise and too little.

If your skin isn't too sensitive to tape/bandaids, I tape my knees using kinesio tape. My main issue is with my knee caps trying to move outwards so I tape pulling to the inside of my leg, but there are plenty of patella taping techniques you can find online! It helps me so much.
