Struggling to make friends as an adult with autism

I'm 22 I've had a difficult time making irl friends for years after my closest friend said she didn't want to be friends anymore when we were 14. Due to autism I don't pick up on social cues well and because of what happened I tend to reject people before they reject me. That being said I think I'm finally mentally ready to try a friendship again but I dont even know where to start looking. My mom keeps saying church groups but I have mostly bad memories from church groups. Does anyone have any ideas, tips or tricks?

I definitely recommend finding hobby groups and meeting people that way. For example, I'm into cosplay. So I meet new people through (local) Facebook groups about cosplay as well as through local cosplay events.

Hello! I'm autistic too, only reason I have friends is because I stumbled into to them; do you like dnd? Totally okay if it's not your thing, but my little group of friends is great with newcomers if your ever feeling up to it ❤️ hehe sorry to ramble

I've done single sessions and really want to try a longler campaign but my schedule never works. I work 2 jobs on Thursday Friday and Saturday so I'm usually up early and home late. But thank you for the offer!
