this is a heart failing to return fluid from an area. If lymph nodes have been removed fluid MUST be pushed to working nodes to be expelled in urine. If not removed and overwhellmed massaged out if not working but exist then add water lots of water to dilute protiens and waste materials. WORK YOUR CALF MUSCLES THEN WORK THEM MORE THEN REALLY WORK THEM... calf muscles are pumps and are your best bet. Watch for little bumps on your skin that can be scratched or picked off LEAVE THEM ALONE ... massage lightly antibacterial softening creams AVOID AN INFECTION SEE A DOCTOR any break in the skin treat it as something that is SEVERE.... They are hardened seepage. If your leg or arm or crotch extrudes "water" its lymph fluid get to a doctor or hospital ASAP you do not want an infection to set in. Since medicare pays for wraps etc since Jan 1 2024 doctors are becoming aware that they can get paid more for it. ESPECIALLY CAPITATED INSURANCES AND SYSTEMS. So look for a pcp willing to learn and get current training. Join the lymphedema society Get involved in your care.

My ex husband suffered greatly from this, and I too dealt with it for years You need a "water pill" first and foremost. I take lasix as needed. This helps your body flush fluid out. You can buy them over the counter but a prescription is way stronger. Make sure you are well hydrated. It may seem counterproductive to take fluid in when you want to remove fluid but this is very important. Water is your friend. Avoid foods that cause swelling. A higher salt intake will make you hold fluid. Make sure you are not sitting still for too long, or standing for too long. Get plenty of sleep. Check out diabetic socks if your feet are swelled. They stretch with you and are much better on your skin. Also keep your skin well moisturized, and take care of any cuts or scrapes you get.
