Need advice on starting a Low FODMAP diet

I’d like to start trying a Low FODMAP diet to see if that would help with my stomach reactivity but every time I bring it up, my mom insists that it’s because of my bad eating habits instead. She’s been somewhat open minded when my doctor told her that I should lay off lactose but seems to be blaming all my GI issues on my eating habits. It’s true I have some bad eating habits but this has been going on for months before my eating habits worsened. Any tips?

@FutureNurse, my mom has to go with me to doctor appointments since I’m a minor and can’t drive myself yet. My doctor recommended it to her when she was present.

Ugh I 100% get it. Does your mom go with you to the doctors appointments? My dad is the same way. Thinks it’s about my poor eating habits, and I mean it probably contributes to it but it’s not everything. I ended up telling my dad that my doctor suggested the FODMAP diet even though she didn’t. I’ve had to learn the hard way that you have to do what’s best for you. It’s extremely difficult when your parents don’t support you on what you’re trying to do, but ultimately, it’s your life. These GI issues SUCK. I was and am still willing to try anything to solve them.

I stopped eating and drinking anything that contains milk because it caused inflammation and bloating. That my personal experience with milk. However, there many other alternatives that are just as good. Also, Just noticed how your body is when you consume milk and when you don’t. Sometimes we notice the changes that occur.
