Losing My Therapist After Four Years

at my last appointment my therapist told me my insurance isn't going to work with her telehealth company anymore after the new year. i'll probably only get to talk to her two more times and then never again. she's been my therapist for four years, she knows me better than almost anyone. she has been an indispensable resource for me and i can't imagine not being able to talk to her. i don't really know what i'm looking for with this post, i guess i'm just hoping some of you will get it because i don't really have anyone in my life who understands how important the relationship with your therapist is once you've found the right one. i'm so NOT looking forward to starting the search over after so long, and i'm going to miss her so much. :(

This is truly a heartbreaking feeling. Finding someone who wants to understand your feelings and experiences is SO rare, so it is completely rational to feel the way you do. What I can say to hopefully assure you is that there IS someone out there that you will click with again. It may not be an immediate find, but there is someone who is just waiting with open arms to welcome you in and make you feel heard again. Maybe a good place to start could be asking your therapist for a list of referrals? To have a list from her could be beneficial because it will consist of people she knows and trusts, which in turn, could also be people who work and act similarly to her. I can’t imagine how you feel, but you are very strong for continuing your search and having the willingness to continue to seek help and not give up.💙

I am so sorry for this loss. I have a laundry list full of therapists I’ve seen in my life. I’ve been with my therapist for 15 years, literally half my life. It is one of the most important relationships I have. I cannot begin to imagine losing her. Which I will eventually as she will inevitably retire. Is there any way you have the ability to pay out of pocket even just once a month? I had to do that for a while when my insurance changed. If you can’t I hope you find someone who can match your energy and you can enjoy your time together these last two sessions. I’m so sorry, sending love 💕

I'm so sorry! I feel this too. I also kind of lost a therapist and since then I could not replace him and none of the therapists have been working for me. I'm with you on that.
