Living with Severe Osteoarthritis: Mobility Scooter or Amputation?

Have severe osteo arthritis in both feet. Steroid injections don't work, anti inflammatory take edge off pain. Have only 2 options for future, mobility scooter or amputation ( seriously!) No such thing as foot replacements unfortunately.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. (If psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are siblings, think of osteoarthritis as their distant cousin.) Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear on the joints over time and is most common in older adults. I first was curious what is osteo arthritis.. which is why I put that info first. Sorry for all you are dealing with with your condition. I have gut/bowel issues and been dealing with since a child(born in 1956). Doctored for years with health issues that just got worse to finally learn about more holistic ways plus improving my immune system. I benefited more from the holistic approaches and mostly from the Medical Medium. As the MM states arthritis is caused from the EBV virus….I injured my tailbone a few years ago and looked for ways to reduce pain and found infrared saunas to help. A wellness center near me has this sauna and joined thus center. They also had testing and tried thief to find I was high in streptococcus but also with EBV. Unfortunately health insurance does not cover much in holistic medicine. I was able to afford a one year treatment plan and did lower the step/parasite infection but still had EBV. So much of my ills are related to strep but see too that the MM is correct about EBV. I follow the MM protocols since 2019 that improved my gut/bowel issues. I had to retire early as symptoms were unbearable. Now I can leave my home and enjoy goods again. Point blank….It is hard work! Changing your mindset to changing your diet was instrumental. I read his books, invested in better foods, great supplements (in past other supps made me more problematic due to fillers, poor ingredients). I would not recommend this had it not worked for me….but it did and was the key to my better health. So hopefully maybe the MM info will be helpful for you!!!! https://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/rheumatoid-psoriatic-arthritis

You are so right about several things… I have osteoporosis osteoarthritis and a bunch of other health issues.. I fell and broke my back at the l3-4 levels… thought that I would rather Be at peace with God than go thru the pain I was experiencing.. I was not a candidate for Kyphoplasty, which is a procedure.. if you are a candidate, where they inject cement into the fractured vertebrae, making it more stable. So instead I wore a brace for several months, and eventually got better.. enough that the Dr said that the vertebrae had stabilized. The pain was still there most of the time and struggled to sleep, and depended on Aleve to help with my pain. That is when I decided something had to change or I would eventually be wheelchair bound.. so I started looking at healthier choices.. started watching documentaries, videos, anything that would help me make healthier choices and get my body out of the everyday pain I was dealing with. I turned to juicing, and intermittent fasting.. It helped… a lot… but there were days when I was still in need of my Aleve.. So I recently went to Georgia, where my son and his family live. They recently opened a restaurant that is Vegan and the dishes they serve are Caribbean based. The food was so different than what I was used to, but so good. As I found out , after I decided to test the waters, and give up all meat, was how my body thanked me. I have been Vegan for a month, and for the last three weeks, I have not had to take any Aleve, and so many of my major pains, from my shoulders, to my back, and knees are diminished so much that I feel like a human again.. I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to sit up after sleeping with out struggling to roll to the side of the bed and inch my way up to a sitting position.. the difference changing my diet is unbelievable.. I will shout this out to ANYONE that will listen.. because going back to the basic diet.. nothing processed, no fast foods…none…just foods that come from Mother Earth….. I could go on about this for awhile, but this is truly what helped me… not only feel better, but have lost weight, and I am lowering my blood pressure as well… it is something that has been a process for me .. My suggestion is find out what works for you.. there is soooo many documentaries out there on you tube, prime, and other channels. Once you watch some of them It will shock you and then really make you start thinking about your health… and how much better you will feel if you try changing your eating habits… true, it takes will power, and lots of it. But once you start feeling the results, and your pain starts subsiding, you’ll realize it was worth the initial struggle.. I am a True believer and will never go back to my old eating habits.. hoping that this might help anyone out there that is having chronic pain.. or exhaustion, I know that a change will do you good 💕💕 Hope I have been of help to someone.. if so, please share your success with someone so they can finally feel pain relief as well💕 May God Bless you in your journey ❤️

I meant I can enjoy “foods” again. There are detoxes too that were key. The MM protocols are to HEAL the body! Mine has been I’ll since day one of my life. Always sick with something… with people stating I looked like I had worms…underweight..hated food as it hurt my tummy..seriously constipated …many infections. In my 30’s developed severe diarrhea and gut issues. Living happily now!

Coming from a purely professional standpoint, and not personal since I'm not an amputee, I'd have to go with the mobility scooter. I understand how someone might think that amputation would be a good option however, it may not solve the problem as Phantom limb syndrome is a very real thing that happens. I have had several patients over the years as a CNA and Home Health caregiver who have had to have amputations for various reasons, and they often complained of pain in the limbs that had been amputated. You see, even though you can see with your eyes that the limb is gone, and you logically know it as well, your brain very often cannot accept that it is.

Well if they have the scooter first and it doesn’t help then that’s why that would be a last resort.

Personally, I'd only have body parts removed if they were going to kill me. I've known too many people that have phantom pain afterwards, so it seems pointless to me. Why would someone even consider amputation if a mobility scooter would solve the problem?!

I have lymphadema and almost had mine amputated but it didn’t happen

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that! I don’t know what that’s like, but I myself being in a lot of pain in my legs would try less invasive first and if that doesn’t help then go to the last resort.

So sorry , I understand because I deal with the same issues, but I’m differently keeping my feet. It’s a decision that some people have made personally in my Family.
