Living with GERD: My Constant Misery

I have horrible GERD I’ve had it for years and I’m miserable all the time. I have times when I’m sleeping and I awaken to acid/stomach contents pouring out my nose, it’s awful. I also get aspiration pneumonia that lands me in the hospital with sepsis……..anyone else?

Hey guys. I have this too. Since 2004. I also have a hernia. I can't sleep sitting up too much as I have a bad back and neck. It doesn't always help me to stop eating. With that fumes thingy you mentioned, I did that and was ater diagnosed with an ulcer and gastroparesis. I have to take zantac with the Nexium and occasionally Gavascon. It seems better some days than others. But, tell your doctor about this. I have trouble swallowing too. So I get this. We're here for you.

Have you tried drinking a spoonful of baking soda in water?

I do sleep sitting up, that’s what’s crazy to me and I always stop eating several hours before going to bed. I absolutely hate it and then I start uncontrollably coughing and it’s like coughing up fumes, that’s the only way I can describe it.

Hi, I have this issue. Do you sleep with your upper body elevated? I can’t do that because I have back issues but they say it works. Also, this I do, sop eating 4 hours before you lay down. I very rarely have this happen anymore. I hope it works for you!
